Halloween Business Series: A Nightmare on Elm Street

Posted by:

One of the biggest issues that I see within businesses is when people neglect to address the issues.  Problems are easiest to ignore, but when one arises, it will snowball into something bigger than it needs to be if not faced.  Never be afraid to face the hard questions head on.

Episodes at work are things that come back to haunt us.  For the purposes of this blog, we will name that issue, “Freddy”.  You may wake up feeling like you were just slashed and killed, but “Freddy” could be a wake up call for an ignored situation.

How does it happen?

Issues arise mainly from pressures and drivers that are trying to get your company to meet its goals.  Many times, the companies are not meeting their goals, and they don’t have the resources to do so.  The easy way out is to ignore the issue – but doing this, will only lead to pain.

How to handle the issue?

The best way to handle a situation is to take care of it at the source.  If an employee or teammate is consistently not meeting their deadline, find out why?  We have a process to get contracts signed by me, as well as the clients.  If the printer is not working properly, causing contracts to be returned late, then buy a new printer!

The printer, or in this situation, “Freddy”, WILL come back to haunt you time and time again.

Take hold of a situation when it is fresh, and at its weakest.  Elm Street is a place you would like to escape from, but don’t be afraid to go there.  After all, no one can avoid sleep.

Confront your demons before it gets ugly.
