“You must be the change you want to see in the world.”  These famous words by Mahatma Gandhi is one of my favorite quotes and you might love it, you might think it’s BS too, But regardless we’re living in the state of now, as Jeff Pulver has said. Information is always moving and always at our fingertips. We can either embrace it and use it, or we can ignore it, and we all know there is no return on ignoring.

So, that said we all have the opportunity the change the world, even 140 characters at a time.

Look at the recent death of Osama Bin Laden.

Via Twitter and Facebook, the worldwide impact of the death of Osama Bin Laden was readily apparent. The leading social analytics company, PeopleBrowsr, demonstrated these results in a recent blog.  Over 3 million mentions in the just the U.S. and hundreds of thousands of mentions in countries like Brazil, Venezula, Canada in the 48 hours after the news hit.

A recent AdAge article said “Twitter averaged 3,000 posts per second during peak activity late May 1 and into last Monday, May 2, its highest sustained rate of tweets ever.

Another great example, during the Super Bowl, folks were tweeting and commenting on the commercials. The reach and impact of companies advertising during the Super Bowl was just as important and viable via social media as it was through traditional commercials during the game.

And even if you’re a small company, with a limited budget you can achieve big impact. If your message is relevant and genuine, and you listen to your customers, you customers will often sell your product or service for you.

So get out there, know that you can be the change in the world, one Tweet at a time.
